Originally released in Japan in 1987, FINAL FANTASY debuted in North America in the summer of 1990. Players assumed the role of the Warriors of Light, attempting to restore light to all corners of the world. One of the aspects that set FINAL FANTASY apart from others was the detailed battle animation, which changed based on what weapons were used or spells were cast. The world was vast, and all of it was waiting to be explored. Players could assign different classes to their party members. Various modes of travel were available, including boats, canoes, and even an airship. And of course, the captivating storyline was also an integral part of its success.
FINAL FANTASY has become the most recognized RPG franchise in the world, and has been credited with revolutionizing the RPG genre in video games. All told, the FINAL FANTASY franchise has sold over 75 million copies worldwide. And yet, fans never tire of visiting these fantastic worlds and the characters that inhabit them.
